We only have 1, we have 2 Xboxes though

I have 0. Retro gaming ftw.

I AM TELLING YOU NOW YOU HAVE NOT LOST YOUR PS3.

If you want your save data back there is no way of getting it off the hard drive without fixing the PS3's motherboard first. So, what you must do: Reflow the Broadband Adapter and the CPU.

You need:

  • Screwdrivers, preferably phillips head
  • Thermal Paste (find this at a computer store)
  • A heat gun, preferably one that outputs 350 Degrees Celcius (Find this at a local depot store)
  • Patience and Will
  • Gilksy's repair guide (http://wheretobuyps3.com/YLOD_fix.pdf)

I'm telling you now, MLD, I fixed my PS3 doing this. I managed to get all my stuff back an I'm so happy to see it all again. :D

BUT, keep in mind the fix is temporary. If you want your saves you might want to back them all up encase it fails again.

You can always repeat the procedure if it does.

1. Take out harddrive from dead PS3
2. buy another and replace the harddrive
3. ???
4. PROFIT!

THIS DOES NOT WORK. The PS3 is synced with the motherboard in some way that if you put his hard drive in any other PS3, it will auto-format it (DELETES EVERYTHING). Trust me, we tried this

actually all of your LBP levels and costumes and progress are saved to your PS3 account :D

Yes this is true, BUT, there are a few things you have to do with that. Firstly you NEED your LBP save file from your PS3. Secondly you ABSOLUTELY NEED to sync your trophy data (this can only be done from the defunct ps3). If you transfer the save file without syncing both PS3's trophy data it won't let you use the save file.

Still have to reformat to even use it on the computer. Phat and Slim models use some different systems so it won't work no matter what.
Just connect both consoles via ethernet cable and then go to system settings and there should be something about transferring data. I had a temporary fix for my old PS3 then I bought my new one and kept every single save that I had.

people are shocked that consoles are like computers and parts can fail. they assume any electronic will/should last forever.

behold the glorious PC gaming race. swap out a more powerful part at the menial cost, for a much longer lifetime.

You should give up all hope and send me those games you lost save data for. Considering most of my PS3 games were stolen a couple years ago.

We're just going to start over
