Author Topic: BlockBans - A banlist updating client  (Read 969 times)

There should be a client where new members can download the list, and it updates their ban list with the current list from Block Bans.

There could be a forum for the mod, or maybe just a drama topic, where people can submit VIDEO EVIDENCE of a person doing something abusive (Such as destroying all their bricks as admin, or spamming chat, or ruining someone's build with a hammer after getting full trust) and take a snapshot of the playerlist in the video. And then the developer can edit the ban list with updated names and IDs of these people.

This would be good to help get rid of some of the more obvious starfishs in the game (Lord Tony, for example). But also just attract a higher quality of players to your server.

This is inspired by Steam Bans.

So, tell me what you think?

One can't do all that job.
He will need admins.
If a idiot "legit" user becomes admin and decides to be a forgeted up handicap, noone will ever be able to join a server with the Add-On ever again. If you understand what I mean.

Maybe being able to view all evidence against that user?
Selecting who you want to ban?

That would be the same as a list on the forums. You see ID's and names & evidence on a post which is kept up-to-date and you just ban him manually. Scripting it won't make it much easier.

A community-wide blacklist would be subject to plenty of controversy over who should and should not be on it. I also don't imagine there's a person in this community appropriate for maintaining such a list.

There are at least a few things the majority of us can agree should get you on the list, of course, if you don't agree with the list then don't use it.
Also, maintenance would just be restricted to keeping it in a public place, where the mod could get it.

It's not that simple. If this would be a widely used mod, whoever is in charge of this list would essentially be taking control of who can and cannot play the game into their own hands. I don't imagine Badspot would let that happen.

hey guys let's leave the decision of who gets banned at our servers up to some guy who we may or may not be able to trust!

nothing could possibly go wrong.

I can imagine him getting pissed off at someone who tries to start it, yes.

If the list becomes untrustworthy then you stop using the mod.
