The duplicator is great but I think it should have a mode that you can activate with a slash command. The mode would let you hit bricks with the duplicator and only the bricks you hit would highlight not all the brick attached to it, and once you select all the bricks you want and they're highlighted you would type an end command and it would set all the highlighted bricks into a duplication. Recommended slash commands /startmultidupe /stopmultidupe. It would be great for making castles or buildings that you already have an un-even roof on and don't want to duplicate the whole thing.
