Does anyone know if having an animal crated for long periods of time has any negative effect on the animal in Zoo Tycoon 2?

I'm loving around in Zoo Tycoon 2 and I have all of the animals associated with a certain biome in one cage. My black leopards are being attacked and killed and I'm trying to figure out if they're killing each other or if the Bengal Tigers nearby are attacking. Does anybody know if Black Leopards are prone to in-fighting? It could also be the gorillas I guess.
