Author Topic: Good, free recording software?  (Read 1433 times)

The problem with Fraps is... is there a switch for it to automatically compress a video after recording? Because it comes out huge as hell and I'm confused as forget which compression system is best for it.
No, but when you make your final product, you can delete the original videos.  The final product should be compressed.

Stop trying to advertise your bad video. Please.
Hey, I am not advertising.  I am suggesting that you compare quality, not watch the video for pleasure although some pleasurewould do nicely...

Fraps can get really bad though, last time I cleared my fraps folder it was 60GB big.

Mine is bigger.  87.9GB
Holly stuff, InFamous doesn't even take that much space on my PS3.

What do you mean? The only output is a full video, and no compressed version. o_o

When I made 1000 moar ways to die Part 1 of 10, all the videos memories combined was about 9.75 GB.  After I published it, it was now, wait for it...
Half a GB.  This is also partly because I trimmed almost every video.

... When you edit the videos and save, the program is choosing the compression as well. You're doing an experiment with two changing variables. 1: Video length. 2: Compression vs. no compression. How am I to make video fixes without the original or compressed without quality loss?

I have FRAPS.
If you tick "Half size" it records in half resolution, hence halving the quality and size of the file.
Also, my FRAPS folder is about 350GB. :)

Quality loss is neccesary to compression.  Either you get a lot of quality but stuffloads of memory are taken up, or some scenes that don't need that much quality (Such as blank screens and other stuff I can't think of.) and end up with much less memory and still have a above average quality.

First: HOLLY stuff ETHAN IS BACK!
Second: HOLLY stuff THATS MORE MEMORY THEN MY COMP CAN TAKE!

I wouldn't dare cut resolution.

I know I know.

I had a tool that also cut down the raw file by about 10 times the size, and lost no visible quality.
I forget what it was called though.

These days there is little if not not a single good free thing anymore.
