Author Topic: Decided to root my Android - Stuff went wrong, then good.  (Read 712 times)

Alright, so I've been seeing applications that I want that require root.  So, I decided to do it.  I Googled, and got this.  [Link]

So I figured, this cannot be too hard!  So I started around 11PM.  I started to root, gave an error about flashing failed.  I thought..Hmm...Let's try again.  Same thing.  Then I noticed I had to first have it unlocked.  So, I then went through steps, until I got to a part where my phone decided to take over when it was flashing stuff.  It got stuck.  I waited for the black box to do something, it did.  I decided to pull the battery since it was in like a frozen stage.

stuff. Now it won't even turn on.  I messed around with it for like 10 minutes, discovered it turns on somewhat with battery removed and USB in.

So, I quickly put in the battery after it started.  Damn, happened again.  I repeat that process about 7 times.  Then ahh, there we go!  I quickly went to the fastboot option.  Things are starting to look good.

That completed.

Now, I was off to root now.  I followed more instructions in the black box.  It wanted to me to pick an option that was not actually there.  Well, damn.  I decided to try it without doing what it said.  The box went through everything with errors, rebooted my phone and it started normally.  I was not gonna let my phone win.  I restarted my phone again following what it said.  This time I got the option it wanted. Yay.

It then went through everything without problems.

Now I have a rooted Atrix, that was hell to root.  Totaling in over an hour to complete.  :panda:

I also lost all my stuff I had.  :nes:

That is the thing that sucks about rooting on AT&T phones, I have verizon. so i just downloaded an app that did it for me.

what are the advantages of rooting. i have a droid incredible 2.

If you understand linux/Ubuntu it is like typing in the Root password and being able to do all the stuff you normally can't do.

..such as

What exactly is "rooting"

Hmmm, well i'll tell you how i use root.

  • Wireless tether(freely)
  • Move apps to SD card
  • Change Roms(like themes but also how the phone runs)
  • Overclock phone processor
  • Use file manager(get into the locked stuff)
and other stuff

Rooting is getting administrator privileges on an android device, similar to Linux

Well, by default Android only gives you and programs a fixed amount of privileges, which is understandable. This way you don't forget stuff up, but rooting gives you the root Über admin privileges like a computer, so you can do so much more with your Android.
You can overclock the processor on your android when it's rooted, for example. You can even upgrade to unofficial updates of Android, like jailbreaking an iPhone.

EDIT: My phone is un-rootable, by the way. :C
It just won't let me. I wanted to install the Voodoo lag-fix but I can't now.

But way better :)

Did you have the 4.5.9 atrix? If so, I'm rather certain it does the 0x100 brick screen every time you unlock/root it. Mine did it and my dads did it. Nothing to worry bout though, its already finished at that point and you just throw the default ROM back on.

That sounds complicated. I'd never forget with my phone...

What I meant was that it stayed powered off, as in the power button didn't work.
