Why does tf2 lag so much and my computer run extremely slow?

I just defragmented it yesterday and its still stuff.

I can't play a game of tf2 without lagging and I don't have a crappy graphics card because I get about 60fps on highest settings.

I have the same issue, I used to be able to play just fine, and all of the sudden it lags like hell, had to set my settings far below recommended and still get ridiculous lag spikes.

mine probably last about 5 to 10 seconds each every 2 seconds.

Idk about TF2 lagging, but your processor is a piece of stuff.  It's an incredibly aged single core processor... at 2.2 GHz.  I know because I used to have that same processor, about 2 builds ago (back in 2006 I think, and even then was subpar).

Also you have 1.25 GB of RAM.  You'd best be running nothing in the background when playing TF2 or running a lot of things at once.

just for clarification you're experiencing network lag? i.e. your internet?

Update DirectX, try to run it on DirectX 9 or 8, set launch options for that.

Put this in Launch Options:
-dxlevel 90 -autoconfig


then Disable Steam Cloud, delete your TF2 Folder, Verify the game's cache,  run the game...

I can run blockland very very smooth though even with max graphics which makes no sense. I mean I know blockland is run on old torque engine but i would think it would still lag

It still lags if I change the dx level. i didnt just do it, i know from experience. plus I am not waiting 3 hours to redownload tf2

stuffty computer. I had a Vista and I couldn`t even play Tf2 with at the instant closing it down are reseting my computer.

Because TF2 has a forget ton of props (HATS) and your computer needs to load them up each time since you have a stuffty amount of ram.

That and your processor in general could have troubles loading them up rapidly as well.

You do realize that DXDIAG doesn't show dedicated GPUs? do u hav a dedicated GPU?
I will give you 3 reasons and it can be a combination of any of them: Not having a GPU, not-good-enough CPU, or not enough RAM.

Looks like stuff but makes everything run like a dream, I highly recommend these. Even now that I own a great computer I still prefer running it with Maxframes since it makes the game feel much more lightweight.
