Author Topic: Game companies don't know what 'true' fear is - What would scare you stuffless?  (Read 4417 times)

Something that makes you think it's not part of the game anymore D:

I think well-lit environments would be good in a horror game used as frequently as dark areas. It lulls you into a false sense of security to be able to see everything around you. Then something absolutely petrifying appears in the middle of a brightly-lit room and any feeling of security you may previously have had is shattered. Humans are born with a fear of the unknown, however dormant it may be in some of us, which makes dark areas so creepy: "if I can't see what's lurking in that half-opened closet, it must be terrifying."

Thing about bright light is that unless it's a pretty cramped space, you can see the entity coming from a mile away

afraid of monsters is scary. the low graphics and the array of loving enemies is terrifying. THERE'S THIS ONE 2D loving DEMON THING THATS INVISIBLE UNTIL YOU APPROACH IT AND IT LAUGHS AT YOU. PLUS THE loving ZOMBIES IN THAT GAME HAVE SHAKY HEADS OF MY GOD I loving GAAAAAH

itt: afraid of monsters is one of the scariest games ive played

aaaaaa I don't care if it's cliche but whenever there's a long ass hallway and there's some sort of thing on the other side and you know it wants to forget you up it scares the stuff out of me.

I realized penumbra overture wasn't that scary once I beat it but when I was still playing it I was nearly pissing my pants the entire time. it was probably all the hype and seeing pictures of the tuurngait infected. I always expected them to pop out from nowhere when I was doing stuff.. but nope. not one. just DOG.. and spiders. yawn. good job internet at making a not-that-scary horror game scary.
