bump for update:
i glued the skeleton together permanently with this here gorilla glue. pretty strong stuff! i'd recommend it if you ever need to glue wood:
i then started to add the foam pads. its a little ironic that out of all the foam adhesives i went looking for, the gorilla glue is the only adhesive i have that doesn't dissolve the foam:
