in gun game, you have to kill the enemy with the gun you start out with
once you do that, you upgrade to the next gun
but if someone knifes you, you go down a level

I think that CoD did actually make gun game first
I'm not sure though, but I know that BF3 and that would have been inspired by it
not complaining though, it's a pretty fun gamemode

Yes, Counter-Strike is where Gungame originates.  In fact, Valve worked with the mod devs for CSGO's arsenal mode.

Also you dont technically get any points for knifing so using knife only is essentially pointless (but a great way to troll people)
