Author Topic: Can anyone help me with this?  (Read 2575 times)

I need a few games to play from a flash drive. Steam games. I know that I can copy my entire steam folder and play like that, but my steam folder contains much more than 14Gb of games. I want 3 specific games pulled from that folder. I'd like to know where the files are stored for the games and how to transfer only specific ones. I remember seeing a topic about this a while ago, but I couldn't find it. Thanks.

Also for anyone wondering:
Faster than light
Super Meat Boy
Dungeons of Dredmor

gcf/other small game files: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps
The main part of steam games: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common

PROGRAM FILES/STEAM/STEMAPPS/COMMON
is where most of 'em are

You can literally paste "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps" into Windows Explorer and find it.

You'll have to copy over the folders in the steamapps\common folder if they're NCF files.

THE ONLY POST IN THIS THREAD SO FAR THAT'S HELPFUL

go to  yoursteamdirectory\steamapps\common
find the folders that contain the game files, they'll be named correctly

The rest were helpful, just not their fault if op doesn't get that he can take individual folders out of them.

well yeah, you're right

He seems to have completely missed the part of jacksaunt's post where it says GCF/Other Small Files.

Then I added onto that and said he has to copy over the files in the steamapps\common\[Game Name Here] folder if the game files happen to be NCF files.

If he can't read entire posts that are actually trying to help him, I'm not going to bother.

Maybe it's because you can't take out the individual files. Can I get the opinion of someone who actually plays games from a flash drive. I'm not handicapped, I know how to get to the steam folder. Stop telling me how to do it. If you can't read my entire post, I don't give a damn if you want to help me or not. I spent about 2 hours this morning following your advice to the letter, and then whatever new advice has surfaced. It does not work, as I originally thought it would not. I honestly think that I am just going to get my girlfriends computer and install steam and the games and just drag everything over. Chexguy and Jacksaunt are the only two who have actually provided any kind of advice other than "HURR DURR STEAMAPS COMON"

Have you tried to install steam onto flash drive itself? You may need to do that from another computer.
Then:
create a folder in flash drive steam directory named steamapps, then create a folder called "common" in this folder.
Copy the Faster Than Light, Super Meat Boy, and Dungeons of Dredmor NCF files from steamapps to the flash drive steamapps.
Copy the Faster Than Light, Super Meat Boy, and Dungeons of Dredmor folders from steamapps\common into your flash drive's steamapps\common folder.

that might have the exact same effect as just copying the whole steam folder (minus steamapps of course) but I think it's worth trying.
