Author Topic: Astronomers discover a planet that could be inhabitable for humans.  (Read 2601 times)

we're not going to get a ship that can go as fast as light, lol.
what if we built a giant slingshot...

made of rockets.

we will have destroyed ourselves long before we manage to travel that far lol
we would never take a 200 year trip. the real goal is to discover new ways to travel so to shorten that time to like 5 years or less.

THAT technology wont come in time for our demise.
Good to see that you have a positive outlook on the human race as always, Bisjac

this isnt the moon, or mars. that would be easy to colonize.

something like traveling 200 light years to use a planet for anything at all, the feat would require we deal with all of earths problems first. something that will never happen.
we cant even begin a project like this with separated nations, and economies and resources keeping humanity at bay.

plus whats wrong with the outlook? do you go through life crossing your fingers and making wishes? grow up. this is the real world.

OR...
We could fix up the mess we made on THIS planet...

If people from earth meet intellagent life, its pretty certain theres gonna be SOME conflict. when colonizers found america, they eventually killed off the native Indians. People are greedy corrupt things.

That's right. The real world.
Where we went from hot air balloons to spaceships in a single lifetime.
Anything can happen, Bisjac.

i still cannot believe people were confusing "inhabitable" with "uninhabitable"

With currently the fastest spacecraft available, it would take us 180,000 years to travel to this planet.

i still cannot believe people were confusing "inhabitable" with "uninhabitable"
I was laughing at the first page, they're all trying to correct each other and they where all making the mistake

Also i don't see why everyone thinks that we couldn't discover faster than light travel in the next couple of years?
These things happen by accident, look at Newton, happily sat under an apple tree, an apple drops on his head and it sets him on the path of working out why the moon orbits the earth, gravity.

Someone over at NASA or a university could just be going about there daily business and stumble across how to do it, obviously it'd take a while for us to build a ship capable of going that fast and keeping people alive for however long it'd take to get there, but anyway, faster than light travel could be discovered anytime

Also i don't see why everyone thinks that we couldn't discover faster than light travel in the next couple of years?

mostly because, y'know, nothing can go faster than light. like, at all. ever.

also newton did not "discover" gravity, and it was kepler who studied why the moon travels around the earth.

Einstein's theory of relativity, published in 1905 says that yes, but ever since we've practically been taking his word for it, sure some other scientists have done experiments and proposed theory's but in the end they're all theory's

And y'know, theory's can be disproved. Like it happens alot. like, all the time.

well this particular theory is over one hundred years old and it hasn't been disproven - don't hold your breath

and read my edit^

loledit: and WTF no we haven't been taking his word for it. tons of people have tried to disprove him and failed.

Why can't we inhabit a planet with 10x earth's gravity? We are always looking for similar stuff.
Then we could become super strong and defeat frieza.

First things first, there was a theory that the world was flat for hundreds of years, and that's a pretty substantial theory that got disproved.

And oh, my bad, he discovered why things (Moons, Earth, planets etc) stay in orbit and what causes them to orbit in the first place.

I'm not saying we've just been completely taking his word for it, it's more that he was such a brilliant mind that hardly anyone thinks there's even a need to challenge what he said. Either way like you said ''this particular theory  is over one hundred years old'' and so much has changed since then, we've advanced so much, we've done so much that was thought impossible back then, and with it our theory's should change.

Yes it can, if you slow light down, which is probably cheating but still.

PS. i never said newton ''discovered'' gravity

we can discover how its done in the next 10 years perhaps. but it will take another 100 before we are capable of doing it lol

we've already discovered how it's done
it just requires metric stufftons of power and expensive materials
