It's up to the player to decide, if you watched the video it'd tell you. Human history in the past was a bloody one, and the development team simply wants the players to write their own history. They give you the tools and world. Then it is your time to decide. And you may band up with other people or simply isolate yourself on another part of the world.
True, but there was at least some rationality back then. In a virtual world, the threat of death isn't nearly as severe even with permadeath. So, I can sense that it'll be a bloodbath until people can get some shred of society happening.

I would love to play this but...

Will never be finished.

Still a great idea.

It will be finished sooner then you think, they have prototype demos and are starting on a beta, they will be releasing info on their blog and all that sort.

Just read their blog which consists of one single post, and the "developer" says that a change from 2D to 3D would be easy. Confirmed that the creator of all of these sites is clueless.

So the speed is 1:1, I wish it were sped up, when this game starts to get good we would probably be dead, so don't expect seeing guns.

when this game starts to get good
What are you talking about? Swords are cool.

I think this is a great idea, but will never be done.

Also, if it was...

It'd either just be as previously said, caveman deathmatch or a large clan would form an empire and enslave everyone.

To be fair, it is a game wherein players form their own timeline. If an empire is formed to enslave the world, so flow the mighty currents of history. A guerrilla rebellion would form, war would break out, the empire would be overthrown, and the world would return to a semblance of peace for a few years.

A guerilla rebellion would never win against a large technologically advanced empire with thousands of slaves.

Firefly, anyone?

If that's the course of history, so be it.

Empires never really last anyway. Leaders rise and fall.
Rome, anyone?

Besides, it's a big world. It's not like you couldn't just branch off and form your own nation. The loss of the all-powerful empire's workforce would certainly bring it to utter ruin.
