Author Topic: [TUTORIAL/VIDEO] Blockland Dedicated Server on Ubuntu  (Read 849 times)

This is a video I made based off of YayFun's tutorial which is here: http://forum.blockland.us/index.php?topic=197423.0

The problem I found with this guide/tutorial was that it had some extra software/features that were unnecessary (IMO) for a regular person, the same could be for an advanced person, its preference really. Linux is becoming a very popular OS for desktop use and hosting as well. I wanted to show probably the most simplest way of hosting a Blockland server on linux and so here it is,

Another Method:
I created a fully automated way to do this.

You now have a completely ready dedicated Blockland server located in the "Blockland" folder in your user folder. Just run the "Start Dedicated Server" file in it.

A few things:

  • .sh isn't required in the launching file.
  • -map skylands? This is v21.
  • "Installing WINE can take up to an hour." - well, on dial up with a single core 128MHz CPU, maybe
  • chmod +x a file you already gave the execute bit? What, why?

  • You can just run the launching file through Nautilus, no need to use Terminal.
I'm not sure about the first one, if you could tell me so I know, but even though this is V21 I downloaded the latest version of Blockland, looked in the dedicated sercer shortcut and it had skylands, it just loads up custom gamemode. Wine more or less takes 10-20min but depending on someone's Internet I stated the longest amount of time so that they wouldn't think somethig isn't working, (the terminal doesnt say much) if I told them it should take 10min (they could have much slower internet) and its taking longer because they have slower Internet they may exit out in the middle of downloading and that could screw it up. I'm playing it safe for everyone.

Edit: I didn't know if you just enabled Execute you didn't have to chmod it (I got confused before when installing Bukkit which tells you this and I thought you needed to do both. I will upload a fixed video tomorrow that just cuts that part out or something.

I'm gonna take into concideration the stuff you've stated here and remake the video, ill see if I can get it to load gamemodes which I think doing -GAMEMODE would work. Thanks, locking!

A new video has been uploaded!
