Author Topic: Date number when Inserting Quotes?  (Read 318 times)

Because Im OCD about this stuff, I want the dates to match up when quoting really old topics, so I tried to fetch the date number needed for a quote to work correctly and came across a problem.

Lets start with any old quote, I picked one at random.. here. http://forum.blockland.us/index.php?topic=172214.msg4403726#msg4403726

And I try to reply to something on one of the active topics recently, so I get this format for one of the messages.

date=1362812120 equates out to March 9th 2013 at 12:55:20 AM.

Now, I didn't get it at first about how they correlated together, so I tried 0. The end result was December 31st, 1969 at 06:00:00 AM (unsure if it means my time zone). Why that day? Why is it how many seconds since December 31st 1969?

Apparently, the Preview button is nonexistent to me. I should be more careful.

Here's a better option. Follow carefully.

==first time setup==
1) Click the Profile button at the top of the page.
2) Click "Look and Layout Preferences" on the left of the page.
3) Change "Use quick reply on topic display" to "show, off by default".

==the actual quoting==
4) Now, go back to the page containing the post you want to quote.
5) Scroll back to the bottom and click on "Quick Reply".
6) Now, scroll back up and click "Quote" on the post you want.
7) The text will appear in the Quick Reply box below.
8) Copy the text to wherever you want it.

ps: This also allows nested quotes.

Thank you, but I'm still wondering why December 31st 1969.
