Author Topic: The next BIG thing?  (Read 2745 times)

I think there are three reasons we rarely see new ideas. First, it is hard for most people to think of new things to do. Second, on the rare occasion that someone DOES think of something new, it is unlikely that the person will have the great amount of determination that is required to make it. Thirdly, on the rare occasion that the first two things happen, the person will also have to learn how to host a server and keep players interested in it . These 3 troubles are what hold back new ideas from coming to life.
We also need inspiration. If you make a creative game, you're going to inspire others to copy/make one of their one. Or have them base something off of your game. Although the first two are usually the most common, the third one still has a likely chance.

The issue is because it takes effort to create an original server that people aren't always willing to put forth. Though, there are more servers like this coming about. One thing I'm looking forward to if we get greenlit is perhaps a stronger modding community. More people that are experienced with other languages and perhaps modding other games to come make contributions to Blockland.
My abandoned Blimp TDM is an example of a original server idea.

Probably renaming it to Colonial TDM, same concept but with no blimps to crash the server.

In my opinion the gamemode is ruined because of our vehicle physics.

This.

"TDM"

I'm thinking about making a Sonic Co-op adventure.

Too bad no one has made a advanced player type that has sonic's abilities, not just speed :c

No one told me about this.
Well Wrapperup.

I recently made a death skiing paradise server, check it out sometime. there is even a Video on it

Zalot, I wanted to play Vvanrim but I jumped from the treehouse into the locked schoolyard and couldn't get out again. You should fix that.

As for original ideas, I do have one. I had it shortly after I first joined Blockland, and was scripting some basic weapon edits (mostly akimbos).
Take the standard grapple knife, and turn it on it's side. Literally.
It gives a better reason to have the grapple: You are playing VERTICALLY on the side of a HUGE-ASS TOWER. Unfortunately, you'd need to script a combo weapon that can both knife and grapple, to allow for midair kills, and you'd need to replace the melee projectile on the knife with a raycast so that you can't "lead" your swing and kill someone who's five feet away from you. Then you'd need an amazing tower build with platforms that stick out, enough so that players could still fight on the platforms, but not so many to make it damn hard to swing around.

In my opinion the gamemode is ruined because of our vehicle physics.
Are you kidding that's what makes it fun.

I can see exactly why [we're losing creativity].

Every time I ask those on my steam's friendslist for coding help its always
"thats not possible!111!!" when I know damn well it probably is and they are just too damn lazy to find out how to do it.

I have trouble staying ontopic as of what server I'm doing, I do have a short attention span, but right now I'm trying to do a build with an entirely destructable environment, or atleast, excessively interactive.

I have a feeling my new CTF I'm working on will be the next big thing...

I have had a few ideas for gamemodes I've been sitting on that have gotten good responses by the people who've heard them. The problem is, the community is too lazy/untalented to do anything about them. Most the ideas I have require scripting beyond what I'm capable of, and yet, almost every time I've posted in Suggestions&Requests or the Modding Section, I've received minimal to no help.

The lack of a good community is the main issue here.

fixed.

Ok i understand whats being said when it comes to "lack of original content." But lets face the facts. To make something good you need a team that actually likes the idea behind it. A active team that enjoys the idea and does not mind working on it for long periods of time. Such can be viewed in rp servers with large groups of people working toward a common goal.

The next thing needed to make something new and popular is find away to get people into the server. Ok here is the a hard part. I have visited many creative servers with 0 people in them on dedicates. You know why there like that? its since the people who work on a project never host anything but a server for people to work on. The second the server opens nobody bothers to join since a popular host does not have it up. The second it does open though the host has wasted time and a dedi on a project that will get no hype and if it does only for a few hours until all the players leave overnight and never return since they get bored of it somehow.

Lastly I am going to point out the fact the standard for good as gone through the roofs. Back in 2010 when spades arcade opened and there was blocko-world and it was the height of BAN a ton of new and amazing work was pumped out also by other clans like BEE and Krypt don't forget that one aviation clan in orange. Anyways the point is a ton of cool stuff came out making a ridiculously high standard that is getting harder to pass as time goes on. You people want next gen even though we are not even through this gen. Just wait. Once all the projects and gamemodes get finished in the shadows there is going to be a new wave. The wave in fact has already arrived. But as stated before with the players of blockland will find old things such as trench wars rps and grapple knifes to be the height. So in the end it doesn't matter how good "The next BIG thing" is since players will be to blind to notice.

I have had many fun years on blockland, and the most important thing i have learned is if you do it with friends the fun never stops. As cheesy as that sounds look at how stuff is now. Most people just browse the forums and clans have became a joke. Cohort is a great example of this. There making amazing content and its just a group of friends doing what they love best. A good build is key to a good project, the key to a good build is a good group of builders, the key to a good group of builders is an active group of builders who enjoy the idea of the project. The whole thing boils down to making something friends who actually respect the projects idea. Getting random on the forums and rtb won't help. Now this whole thing ties into our next issue of people not making friends with new players. But thats for another topic.

I fixed that weeks ago.
Also that was a prison, not a school.
