Author Topic: Battlefront II and AMD Dual core processors just LOVE each other!  (Read 1130 times)

And by the title of course I mean I want to burn my computer at the steak

I have two AMD athlon II x2 240 processors, and I read online all that time that people are having issues with Battlefront II because it's not optimized for dual core processors, but nobody seems to be having the exact same issue or processor as I am. So I have no idea how to fix it

It runs perfectly smooth for a half hour or so and then I respawn or join a new server or something and I suddenly drop to 5 fps, and it doesn't go back to normal even after I exit the server.
I've tried using the supposed quick fix by clicking 'set affinity' and unchecking a processor in task manager so that the game acts like there's only one processor, but if anything, that seems to speed up the process.
I've tried using imagecfg as mentioned on this page but that actually broke my game so that it wouldn't start at all. I just get an error message, so now I have to reinstall the game entirely.
My drivers are up to date and everything too. So forum, WHAT DO??

Why would you burn steak?

Why would you burn steak?
tastes betta that way

Also I turned off thread optimization or whatever it is in the nvidia control panel, it worked for MUCH longer, but it eventually still went el handicapo

and yet people wonder why i always choose intel processors in computer threads lol.

what do you mean when you have "two AMD Athlon II x2" processors?  you mean you physically have two of the same type of processor and you've tried both in your computer or you have two computers with this processor and you've tried BFII on them both?

I believe it's a dual core possessor basically, in device manager it shows up as having two of those

ah ok, yeah device manager does that, it's also in the name too, amd athlon ii x2 (just nice information to know).

as for the problem i don't really know, like this sounds like some really deep problem in the processor and how it's made.

As far as I know there's just some games, BL included, that aren't optimized for dual core processors. So the game "runs too fast" and ends up doing this :/

If it runs too fast, open up 100 firefox tabs.

Checkmate.

that's when the game runs too fast, which isn't the case.  the AMD Dual Core Optimizer fixes this, but i'm not sure if it'd really fix the problem you're having and it's only for Windows XP.

if you have windows xp, it's worth trying.

I really don't understand why it doesn't work to be honest, I was just quoting the mention of the issue on the BL page
Quote
There is an issue with AMD dual core processors that causes Blockland to run too fast.

This comes with a link to an AMD Dual Core Optimizer, although I may have already gotten this. And other than that, on AMD's website the only optimizer they seemed to offer was for a different processor than the one I have. So I figured that the one being linked on the download page of BL probably wouldn't work for my processor
Also I have Windows 7

I find this odd because i have a Quad core and never have this problem.

I've got an athlon x3 and the set affinity thing solved it for me.

It could be a slow GPU, could be slow/laggy internet, (test this by playing offline with bots), could be that your single core isn't up to the job, could be outdated/slow/not enough RAM, could be Windows XP

lol are you loving kidding me, the amd cpu isnt the loving problem here, its the game
take your intel shilling somewhere else

oh sure there's just no correlation between lots of stuff not working and athlon multi-core processors

do you even work with computers or are you just the kind that float around the computer threads pretending to know stuff
