I don't speak from experience. But, when you're a developer for a game, or at the head of a company like Phil is, you should try to act professional.
Should I have responded to that troll's comment? Probably not. But he's recently followed my posts on this forum and it ticked me off. So there, I admit it.

I'd love to see Phil admit he made a mistake. I'd put money on it that he never will.

I would 100% bet you that Phil Fish gets somewhere around 10 to 50 times the amount of bad comments Badspot gets.
He doesn't reply to all of them at all, infact he replies to very little of them considering how many he got.

Sorry - but when you have entire internet forums saying what an starfish you are, 50 twitter posts a day about how much of an starfish you are and then to top it off the MEDIA is saying how much of an starfish you are it's very hard to not reply to a couple of comments and try and fight back. That kind of hatred towards anyone would make someone emotionally unstable and make them lash out.

he lashed out during fez's development to bad comments because his partner LITERALLY left him with nothing but a half finished game. yes, he lashed out, he also admitted this. it was wrong.
after it finally came out people kept just sending horrible stuff to him
