Author Topic: Why were um... Well sorta 'textures'? removed?  (Read 2157 times)

Or rather, I just didn't emphasize to your liking. Everything in that quote is a valid reason as to why they were taken out, just because I posted those specific reasons doesn't make me wrong.
You stated it in a way that made it seem like that was the only reason.

So I'm confused now... What was/were the real reason/reasons?

These two features complicate Blockland’s code tremendously. That means we can’t add game features very quickly. They still have bugs in them (after years of work). They are slow, too - bricks are about 90% of their speed and can do a LOT more (explosions, events, in-game editing).

They also look bad

But there is a downside to the new shaders, if you have a great graphics card, like i do, you'll be fine, if you have some intel graphics, then you cant run the new shadows and shaders, I have a nvidia geforce gtx 660.
That's not really a downside.

A downside would be, for example, when you have to remove one feature in order for another feature to work properly.
Removing terrains and interiors was the downside for adding shaders.

Not being able to run shaders would be a "problem" with your graphics card, not a "downside" to shaders.

So pretty much because the shaders don't go well with it and various other reasons?
