They never said she was completely cured. She was functionally cured, which is basically saying there could still be enclaves of the virus within her system that could potentially one day spread, but we are optimistic.

Obviously by taking her off the antivirals the mother allowed the virus to spread.

whether this is true or not, doesn't really matter, but don't try to blame the mother
because that's when the doctors agreed that it was functionally cured. and that she could stop medicating, period
it wasn't until this month, over a year after that, that they actually found out that it got worse

the doctor stated he had no idea why the mother stopped medicating the girl

stupid mother is stupid mother

but that isn't important, because they decided it was okay that she did

i dont think they knew she wasnt medicating her

"Doctors started her again on antiretroviral therapy."
which means that they knew she wasn't on it already

if you have a robot that constantly cleans your room. and someone else gets rid of that robot without you knowing. are you gonna buy a new robot? no. because you don't think there's anything wrong with the first one

i would buy a new one once i knew that the old one was gone.

yes. once you knew the old one was gone. so, they knew she was not on medication because otherwise they wouldn't have started giving her any

right. but that doesnt mean they always knew she wasnt being medicated. it could have been months before they realized she wasnt refilling her prescriptions. i guess it would prolly mean that once they realized, they decided not to recontinue though.

the child was part an important experiment, I imagine they'd have kept a good eye on her

well i mean, would the drugs have "finished off" the HIV but they were cut of before they could?
IIRC the drugs don't kill/destroy the virus at all, they just (hopefully) prevent it from spreading further
