Considering I won't be able to finish the whole game with Black Mesa, I think I will stick to another version of Hl1.

I wouldn't recommend Source simply because the high-res skyboxes and lighting look way out of place with the ported GoldSrc models.

I really would go with the original since everything looks in place, even if it looks dated from a graphics standpoint. Also mods.

The only mods I know of for half-life are blue shift and opposing force. I don't think they work any more because they are their own separate games.

Sven Coop is a multiplayer mod for Half Life that has a TON of custom maps, maps, NPCs and weapons from the expansions, HD weapons and player skins

u wot m8, OpFor and Blue Shift are expansions, not mods. They work perfectly fine, but I think they install Half-Life to run off of (which you won't be able to run if you don't have it).

As for Half-Life mods, there's a ton. The aforementioned Sven Co-Op, Natural Selection...the list goes on. There's a whole bunch of still-active mods out there that you'll miss out on with Source...though you do get the resources for Gmod if you buy Source.

buy half life 1 not source and get tons of mods for it. there are some really fun ones.
