You don't just "put ddos protection" on a game server

It's alot more complicated than that, you also can't just install a program that does it

Badspot most likely couldn't even afford ddos protection for all game servers if it was possible

You are being a massive handicap. A big hardware-based firewall with specialized firewall software is needed to stop a packet flood DDoS attack. A.K.A. hundreds of dollars a month.
