Or you can use OGG, a format with a free specification that has better audio quality than mp3 for the same bitrate.

Import -> Raw Data ignores the filetype, all you'll get is noise.

And if you want to get even more amazing you can go for OPUS, which is basically the bleeding edge in audio codecs. It's also a free format like OGG.
