Author Topic: well it looks like I found a new scamming attempt from bots (Steam)  (Read 4288 times)

Not trying to be dismissive or anything but you put in way too much effort into something that should have been obvious from the get go.

Clue #1: the message appears instantly in the chat window after you add the bot, no time for typing
Clue #2: the bot is asking you to add his friend. This should immediately be a warning sign
Clue #3: The link isn't steamcommunity.com

I get at least one or two friend requests from bots every day that I bump my tf2outpost trades. I've reported maybe 50 accounts so far, but they just keep coming

I'm not sure how you guys get all these bots, I got like one my entire time on Steam.

'post your steam' threads

Jesus christ. Why do people think that scam bots work?
Because they do. Many people are stupid and will put in their login in anything that looks slightly legit, see Blockland Gold.

tf2 items that they want to steal

Yea. Most of the bot accounts come from people who give away their login info

You have to be a loving idiot to fall for this.

Ive been targeted before, steps to take when this happens
1. your told to add their "friend" this is a step of scamming by bots
2. Look at the name of the link, if not steamcommunity.com then dont touch it
3. report for attempted phishing
4. block em
and then your fine to continue on with whatever your doing

Yeah, they add  you nearly every time you post something on TF2 outpost.
