Author Topic: Should I get a seperate CPU and GPU or just an all-in-one AMD APU  (Read 2704 times)

are you loving kidding me

Athlon II has been obsolete for over 6 years you moron

just loving leave, you don't know anything about computers
Oh my god, I laughed SO hard
You idiots, that's one of the new Piledriver Athlons. It's based on the same architecture as the A-series APU's, and uses the same socket, too. The 750K is exactly the same as the A10-5700 except that it lacks the IGP and has an unlocked multiplier.

The A10-7850K has a TDP of 95W, above the i5-4570R's TDP of 65W. The Iris Pro 5200 inside the R-series (i7 CPU probably outperforms the A10's CPU so I compare with a low-end i5) seems to perform similar to current low-end graphics cards (you could probably run low or even medium Blockland shaders at a decent frame rate). The A10 GPU obviously outperforms the Iris Pro, though.

Wait what

I thought it was weird that it used the FM2 socket, holy stuff

My mistake, sorry. I hadn't even heard a damn thing about these until now.

wtf is APU, i hear about this thing first time in my life

It's basically a CPU with an integrated GPU

The new Intel Pentium 20th anniversary CPU is pretty loving badass. If you're willing to overclock it to just about the max it'll run games no problem. Unless you're playing a CPU heavy game then it's stuff but it keeps up with mid range gpu's pretty good. It also doesn't put off a ton of heat either so a cheapy aftermarket cooler should work. I think for it and a decent board you're pushing like $150-$200. You'll need a discrete GPU but you should be able to put together a decent computer for around 400-500ish

AMD's APUs are extremely capable and highly competitive at their price point
Whoever is building a basic system with a Core i3 or Pentium is pretty stupid because you have all these quad-core APU's available which have better graphics than Intel HD. They also run at higher frequencies than their Intel counterparts, which compensates for the lack of single-core power.

whoever said they have poor cooling is extremely misinformed
Even the highest-performing APU has a TDP of 95 watts, which is not much considering it has a R7 250 inside. AMD's new 28nm manufacturing process reduces the heat that you see on the FX's.
