Author Topic: Should I get a seperate CPU and GPU or just an all-in-one AMD APU  (Read 2729 times)

Tokthree is right, AMD apus are pretty capable for low budget builds. If your budget is around $500 total, they might be worth looking into. But they're only so powerful, and around that price point discrete cpus and gpus start becoming a much better value for your money. What is your actual budget, considering monitor/periphirals/OS as well

keyword "old".
And are you sure it wasn't just onboard?
no it was an APU
and my PC was from 2009 or something

The Kaveri APU/r7 250 isn't that great... It runs considerably worse than an r7 260z, barely running a good amount of games at medium/high settings at 30fps, not worth it even if it's 180

whats the point.
you can get the r7 250 for cheaper by itself.

sure you can have a nice gpu fit in that, but the sad story is the cpu that comes bundled inside isnt that great. so is it really worth it?

id advise just getting a dedicated gpu and a nice cpu to go with it instead of bundling it unless youre on the worlds tightest budget.

Holy loving stuff, I never knew such a thing as APU's
I searched the 'AMD A10-5800K APU' and holy loving stuff.
4GB graphic card cache
3,8 Ghz quadcore.
For only €109
By just buying these separate I think you easy lost ~€200

You don't really know much about computer hardware, do you?

AMD's APUs are extremely capable and highly competitive at their price point unless you need raw CPU power for things like rendering and advanced system emulation (PS2, Gamecube, etc), they're my CPU of choice when I'm building a system on a budget

whoever said they have poor cooling is extremely misinformed because even an A10 is practically dead silent on full load, with the stock cooler, and my A6 could actually run with the cooling fan off when it was idling; that ain't happening with an i7

bottom line: if you think you'll need extra CPU power for something down the road, go with a dedicated CPU + an AMD R7 (R9 if you wanna splurge)

if not, go with the APU

Actually I do, APU is just really new for me.
Forget what I said about APUs.
found this good CPU for a very low price.

are you loving kidding me

Athlon II has been obsolete for over 6 years you moron

just loving leave, you don't know anything about computers

He probably thinks clock speed is everything
Actually it's not really bad (at least for the price), but it's not "stuffload good" either

to be honest it probably would hold up relatively well nowadays, but $100 is way too much

you can get an FX-6300 for that

For me it is. Because I currently have a stuffty quadcore 1,5 Ghz.

Holy forget yes please!

oh god, it's like you've never seen much hardware at all

Everytime a different CPU is discussed you're like "holy stuff that's really good"

For the price, If I saw the same CPU for e.g 120$ I'll be like, Meh...
Well, I'm planing to buy the FX-6300. I needed a new CPU anyways.
