why would you use garry's mod for a school project
Projects. For one business assessment where we had to project the future of a business, I took an RP gamemode and modified it so I could demonstrate how some retail store would work out. I used WireMod in IT for some networking assessment, I made a machinima video for religion and blah blah blah. Basically, it was a way for my to get top marks because I was so "creative".
if i remember correctly, garry told people when Gmod 13 would come like 2-3 weeks before it actually happened

I can see why you'd be mad about your add-ons breaking, but this thing happens all the time with a bunch of games with large playerbases. People shouldn't act surprised and blame it on the creator.
True. I don't blame it so much on the creator for being incompetent (they are not) or because they intended to break something (they didn't), but rather an understandable oversight. I just don't understand why some of the content that was mounted from CS:S and HL:S no longer loads in GMod 13, but did in 12.
Also, updates that break things should be expected too, surely another update will come soon and fix it up.
I'm assuming an update for this patch will be coming very, very soon. I get that accidents happen and there's many system configurations that the developers can't forsee, but I feel some decisions (such as prop glows) are probably leaning more towards developer oversight.

Bad metaphor, but the point stands; we need to have higher expectations of these companies. It's like my dog who keeps eating his own stuff; if he had been trained properly he would not be doing it, but because we let it slip he continues to get away with it.
