I dont care if you have to sign a bunch of forms, try to get permission to bring a weapon, or in some way obtain protection, like some guards.
I'm gonna advise you to always keep money on you. Specifically anything more than $30 USD. NEVER walk around without any sort of currency or anything that can be given to a mugger, because if they believe if you are holding out on them, they will a) knock you out and rob you anyway or b) loving kill you.
Alternatively, have a cheap cell phone on you. Do not have any visible cameras, jewelry that you are not willing to lose, or anything valuable in general.
