Author Topic: We're finally going to stop being such richards to Cuba!  (Read 1417 times)

Being Cuban, I'm glad.

I seen this stuff on the news. It seems more like we are trying to go there and "enforce peace and relations" that are not needed, for benefit of our government's own selfish wants. Cuba is getting the better end of this deal, to be completely fair. It's not like we're getting anything out of this that's substantial.

By all means, trade and commerce is nice, but they want to be able to use american credit cards in Cuba and enforce laws over there that are not under our country's jurisdiction. This is all because Cuba is only 90 miles from Florida, and if you ask me they outta just be part of the states if this is all going to happen. What? Allowing the use of credit cards is for ease so that tourists won't have to be forced to change currencies if they want to only use their credit cards. Also, credit cards have nothing to do with enforcing laws.

I wouldn't mind buying a Cuban cigar in my hometown gas station. I don't see the big deal. Other countries sell stuff here all the time, but using credit cards there and all that is just too much. You can use your credit card in China. China's communist. What do you have against credit cards? This shouldn't even be a big deal, just another deceitful attempt by the government to put our attentions on something stupid while they do something else behind our backs. It's a big deal because we're getting rid of a stupidly antiquated aspect of foreign policy that has economically disadvantaged the Cuban people for the past six decades. Never mind Castro, the embargo would have never affected him.

The fact that they refer to the President as "Mr. Obama" in the article rustled my jimmies.

Why did america have such a problem with communism? Its just another country's ideology or was america trying to do a crusade for democracy?

To answer your question, the reason why America is afraid of communism is because the USSR posed an existential threat to us. We're one of the few places in the world where we haven't had a major conflict/war on our own territory in a very long time (for hundreds of years if you don't count Pearl Harbor). So when the USSR started racking up nukes and rivaling our military, a vast majority of the US was terrified of fiery, nuclear destruction. In retrospect, young people today see the Cold War as a part of history and don't have the same kind of reactionary fear of commies that old people do.
