Law enforcement is a dangerous job. People are unpredictable and dangerous. Handguns are generally inaccurate and have crude sights which make arm and leg shots hard to make.

Also all humans are built differently. You can shoot Person A in the leg and he might drop on the ground screaming, you shoot Person B in the same place is he is still standing.

Like wise people don't reach for the gun in your holster to look at it, their reaching for it to kill you. Are you going to get close to someone who already tried to take your gun once?

"But muh taser". They have limited range, and like bullets people's bodies will react differently too them.

No body wants to be the guy that got killed like in this incident:

even if pistols were accurate theres still the whole "forget hes aiming a gun at me if i take the time to aim for one of his limbs specifically he might get the first shot off" thing so they just aim center of mass

On the topic of tazers:

That was the funniest video I have seen in a long time. If you can fight and prevent 2 trained cops from putting hand cuffs on your wrist while they have you pinned on the ground, while SINGING? Then when they decide to taze you, you get the hulk powers and push them off you and run away, you deserve the get another free day. haha.

well most all guns wont kill a person unless they are hit in key spots. statistically guns arent that deadly. it takes several spazzy shots from anything XD

its not logical to train for headshots. you train to "hit a target at all" and to keep it up as needed.

the "sights" on handguns really are there for target shooting if anything. Anything else and you're going to want to be getting multiple shots off as fast as you can in a combat situation.
