Having used Word on other computers and at school and comparing it to (personally,) LibreOffice there's clearly a difference, but the difference consists that Libre/OpenOffice would feel more like the old versions of Word, as the new versions are now tabbed and have other things, incorporating the standard Microsoft menu for programs (like Paint has it).
I personally think Word has a better menu in that aspect because things are much better organized and it's easier to get things done with it, but beyond that I doubt a program can get between Libre/OpenOffice and Word.
Beyond that, considering I opened/transferred (rather basic though) .doc files between the two, there really isn't a difference.
