Author Topic: Online typing software?  (Read 952 times)

I'm trying to find something I can type stories on as I am a writer of historical fiction but I need a free piece of software I can do this with, I was going to buy Microsoft Office as I have experience with it but it was $109 and I'm not buying something until I know some things I can use for free.

It'd be preferable if it acts like Microsoft office

LibreOffice or OpenOffice. It really is the same thing though.

LibreOffice or OpenOffice. It really is the same thing though.
Is it good?

Having used Word on other computers and at school and comparing it to (personally,) LibreOffice there's clearly a difference, but the difference consists that Libre/OpenOffice would feel more like the old versions of Word, as the new versions are now tabbed and have other things, incorporating the standard Microsoft menu for programs (like Paint has it).
I personally think Word has a better menu in that aspect because things are much better organized and it's easier to get things done with it, but beyond that I doubt a program can get between Libre/OpenOffice and Word.
Beyond that, considering I opened/transferred (rather basic though) .doc files between the two, there really isn't a difference.

"Old" Word (2003)

New Word

LibreOffice

Beyond the looks, the functionality is as fine as typing words in can be.

Open office is loving awesome.
Imagine Microsoft word.
Imagine it free.
That's OpenOffice.
I'm a hard-core roleplayer, I need a program to check my spelling for my forgetabouts on steam, and OpenOffice fits that role loving awesome.
