"Designed from the start to be a fully procedural co-op game, Windward can be played both by yourself and with friends. Start by generating a procedural world that will be unique to you, then sail forward fighting pirates, trading with towns, doing quests or simply exploring -- it's up to you how you want to play.

As you sail about you will find resources you can make use of, upgrades for your ship, new towns that will ask your assistance, and as you get farther out from the starting area -- various pirates that will attempt to take what's rightfully yours. Combat experience will let you unlock new talents and abilities to make that particular line of work easier.

As you take up consignments with towns and fulfill their production shortages, the towns will grow, offering more quests, more resources and better items. As the towns continue to grow they will offer you a choice to upgrade your ship itself. Would you prefer a fast Schooner to explore the world, or a heavy Galleon that's able to take up 5 consignments at once? Or perhaps a massive Ship of the Line to take the fight with the pirates to their heartlands?

As you explore the world and get farther away from your starting area, the game will become progressively more difficult -- but so will the rewards. Throughout all of this you can expect the pirates to put up a fair fight, as the AI is bound by the same rules as the player: they have sight, and must explore the map before they can know what's there.

Speaking of AI, build a fearsome reputation and the AI will respect you, even fear you -- avoiding you if at all possible. Some friendly AI will even choose to follow you and assist you in your own adventures."

lmao i just saw this on the top sellers on steam, the boat mechanics look similar to age of empires 3.

So is it soley naval combat?

I like the looks of it, and thanks for recommending it to me, but the more I look at it, the less it actually seems like Mount&Blade.

What's actually Mount&Blade'y about it, besides hoofing it around a map and fighting/trading? Are there actually diplomacies and troop recruitment and factions?

Yeah, four factions, all with different perks. I haven't managed to get my internet working (due to my port forwarding issues on my stuffty internet) but there's massive servers full of other players, looks like so much fun.

forgetin issues with my internet D:
It should work fine, I think, if you set it to any port that isn't being used by any other programmes or functions.
Then ask people to join your server with that port.

Anyway, I think I'm gonna give in and grab this.
My friend might do so too, but he's a stickler with money, and won't buy anything unless it's on sale. And even though it's 15% off and less than a tenner, that's still not quite enough for him.

I'm not trying to host, I'm trying to join the game's official servers.
Anyway, I'll try and join your server (or you join mine)
I'll level up with you, it works pretty well for co-op!

So yeah, I got it, and it's actually really fun.

It can be a bit slow to start, depending on how you spend your time. I went with the Trader Faction, and doing misions and trading took quite a while in my starting zone, because my ship wasn't too fast and my towns randomly generated at some distance from each other.

The town feature is also quite nice, in that doing a set number of quests for a town levels it up. each time it levels up it provides more quests and things, as well as letting you buy a better ship.
It does take forever to do that many quests, but I assume that if you were on a server and had 5 or 6 people all doing quests in an area, they'd level up quickly.

Combat is also quite fun, especially when you unlock a few special attacks, like the Fog Bomb (throw it on an area and any enemies inside can't target anyone or be targeted) or the Fire Bomb (does heavy damage on any one in it's area, and if it lands directly on a ship the AoE follows that ship).

I really enjoyed it, and ended up spending 5 straight hours on it yesterday (I forgot to eat dinner lol).
So yeah, I would recommend it, given that it's quite cheap.
Might as well get it now while it's 15% off. It's not an amazing reduction in price, since the game is pretty cheap anyway, but every little bit counts.

Yeah I start playing and then realize that I've played all day.

Do you know what's up with capturing towns from pirates, when sometimes it will be converted from pirate to a different faction besides your own?

I've had two different towns swap to "Exchange" (confused me at first, because this faction wasn't a choice when the map was made), but none of their ships spawned and I contested the region and took them back.
I had one of them spawn as the Consulate, which turned out helpful as they had stronger ships for that level, so they still retain their port in that sector.
And then I had one spawn as the Syndicate, which I would have liked to keep, because players can't join them at the start of the game, but they got overtaken by pirates and when it was recaptured it became Sojourn.
