Author Topic: would this adapter work for an nes?  (Read 1245 times)

i dont have a way to buy an actual nes adapter and i dug out a bunch of adapters around the house and this was the only one that met the requirements for it.

its over what the nes needs so im not sure if it would cause problems.

also there are probably tons more around the house i can find, if this will definitely not work ill probably go scavenging for more.

Do not use a power supply which has a voltage over what a product is rated for.

if you cant get a proper power supply you might want to consider just emulating

ive looked everywhere and people said they've had no problem with it. i havent run anywhere with these specific specs though thats why im wondering

Hell loving no, that will fry it.

Just get this one :http://www.amazon.com/Universal-Adapter-GENESIS-Nintendo-Entertainment-System/dp/B001S2VT6I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1449976429&sr=8-1&keywords=NES+power+adapter

Its the same one I got for my NES and it works fine, voltage is very important just because it fits doesn't mean it won't forget it up.

Input needs  to be AC 1100240V 60Hz
Output needs to be DC9V - 850mA

again i have no way of buying one. ill probably just look around for one that's exact or extremely close we have tons of different types lying around.

With power supplies, for any type of electronics, the voltage has to match. If it's too high, it could fry the components its powering.
But current is different, if it's higher than the components need, it's completely fine. It's just like putting a power supply in your computer with a higher wattage than it needs, the components only take the current they needs.

So, for your NES, it doesn't have to be exactly 850 mA, just at least. But it does have to be exactly 9v.

The default one for the toaster varient that I have in my bedside dresser reads as follows:
  MODEL: NES-002
  IN: AC120V 60Hz 17W
  OUT: AC9V 1.3A
  FOR USE WITH NES-001 ONLY

Go for it; it says NES on the adapter, so you should be fine.

do not use that adapter

in that case i found these two. the one on the right seems a tad small and doesnt specify if its ac or dc (or maybe it does and im an idiot)

both are 9 volts but have 1 amp

i just realized the nes needs 17wats the left one only has 12

doesnt specify if its ac or dc
This:

is the symbol for DC current

Similarly, above it, the ~ is the symbol for AC current

So yeah the one on the left should be fine

it ended up didnt working. like the power light didnt cut on at all so i quickly unplugged the power cable. i guess ill just have to come up with some way to buy an actual adapter.

the way I buy stuff from amazon is I buy a amazon gift card (the ones that you add money to) and then I buy it from amazon.

Its hands down the easiest way to get what your looking for.
