By "games beyond entertainment," I simply mean games that are meant to be played not only for entertainment, but also for other reasons that you see as more important than entertainment (very open-ended, so you can be creative).

Can you think of any concepts for such a game?

As a serious response, games like Stanley Parable are designed to be interpreted and ripped apart for study. They have a message and it's about trying to interpret the message through the gameplay. Bioshock does this very well.

D&D can be used for study and discussion on many points of literature

I would like more history games with a focus on researched/sourced history.
