The previous trailer was poorly received by many Star Trek fans, myself included.

The reason being: Its combination of beastie boy's music, rampant destruction/screaming, and generic action flick tone, which don't sit well with what Star Trek has always been about. It's about exploration, science, and adventure, not rampant gruesome violence and rock music. A lot of Trek fans I know have said the 1st trailer makes the movie look like a ripoff of Guardians of the Galaxy.
