Day of Defeat:

What the game is

Quote
(from Wikipedia) Day of Defeat is a team-based multiplayer first-person shooter video game set in the European theatre of World War II on the Western front. Originally a modification of the 1998 game Half-Life, the rights of the modification were purchased by Valve Corporation and released as a full retail title in 2003. The game was generally well-received, with an aggregate score of 79/100 on Metacritic.

Set in the midst of World War II, Day of Defeat includes no single-player campaign, with focus left only on the game's multiplayer aspects. The game favors teamwork and features objective-based gameplay in combination with its system of classes. Maps are primarily made up of narrow paths, all of which typically lead to a few key locations. An official remake of the game, Day of Defeat: Source, was released by Valve in 2005. Utilizing the then-new Source engine, the remake featured various improvements over its predecessor, including updates to gameplay, graphics, and audio functionality.

Day of Defeat: Source:

Quote
(Wikipedia of course) Day of Defeat: Source is a team-based online first-person shooter multiplayer video game developed by Valve Corporation. Set in World War II, the game is a complete remake of Day of Defeat it was updated from the GoldSrc engine used by its predecessor to the Source engine, and a remake of the game models. The game was released for Microsoft Windows on September 26, 2005,[3] distributed through Valve's online content delivery service Steam. Retail distribution of the game was handled by Electronic Arts.

The game was officially announced in February 2005. During the course of its development, Day of Defeat: Source progressed from being a straight conversion of Day of Defeat, to the alteration of certain aspects of the game's design and introduction of several new features. In addition, Day of Defeat: Source has been used by Valve to present new design features on the Source engine, such as high dynamic range rendering and cinematic effects. The game itself revolves around two teams, the US Army and the German Wehrmacht, each with access to six player classes, fighting in a variety of scenarios inspired by World War II engagements in the European Theatre of 1944.

Upon release, the game received a generally favorable reception, praised for its atmospheric and strategic gameplay and its graphics, audio work and overall presentation. However, the game was criticized for the lack of content in it at the time of release, although subsequent updates to the game have added new game modes and levels.

Day of Infamy:

Quote
(Some content from it's Steam Workshop page) Experience intense close-quarters WWII infantry combat, from the entrenched shores to the battered streets in Day of Infamy. What started out as an Insurgency mod has transformed into a full-fledged standalone game built with Source Engine.
Gameplay Features
Gritty Objective-Based Experience
Intense core infantry mechanics and a simplified HUD create a highly visceral and immersive experience. With a reinforcement wave system tied to objectives, the game maintains an emphasis on teamwork and coordination.

Squad-Based Role System
Squad system built upon role-based player classes, which are asymmetrical based on what team you are on. Depending on your supply points, you may customize and upgrade your gear, affecting your appearance, weight, stamina, and movement speed.

Strategic Leadership and Artillery Strikes
Officers can direct their team in the field. In addition to a wide variety of command options, they may call in an intense artillery barrage on the enemy, if a radio operator is nearby.

Local and Radio Communications
Local VOIP is used to talk to your teammates in the game, but be careful because the enemy can hear you if you’re close enough. Radio operators also serve as a communication beacon to those around them, as HQ and radio operator chatter can be heard through them.

Nostalgia
The game aims to be a continuation of the gritty WWII experience established by the Day of Defeat mod for Half-Life in 2001. It builds off the atmosphere and nostalgia of this classic experience, but adds more visceral and intense core infantry mechanics.

I don't own Insurgency my self but apparently you can "subscribe" to Day of Infamy on it's Steam workshop page even though I linked the upcoming standalone release in the OP http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=601757902

forget I still play the classic Day of Defeat

The original Day of Defeat is where its at. DOD:S removed alot of content including an entire team (The British who replace the Americans on some maps and have weaponry that is underpowered or overpowered depending on what weapon).

I just got both, lol. Only valve games I didn't have. I've only played Source, but I'll try to make sure I play the original and see how I like it.

whoaaa day of infamy sounds sick. i love insurgency and i've been craving a good ww2 game

Both are pretty good IMO but there is no way you can argue with this.

day of infamy would be better off you could run while crouching like in red orchestra

darkest hour is fun

Is anyone up for some classic Day of Defeat?

Is Day of Infamy related to Day of Defeat, I've heard that there's maps from DOD in it and that it plays very similar. If this is true then I'm going to buy it asap.

Bump. Don't want this to die,

also

Yes it has similarities, it is most likely inspired as the DoD games news pages say "Unshamelessly based off of Valve's WW2 FPS"
