Author Topic: Should I get a R9 Fury over a GTX 1070?  (Read 2279 times)

nothing wrong with msi, its just not my brand
Understandable.
Yeah get whatever EVGA/Zotac you want, as long as it's not one of the models that blows up.
I could still get a FTW from Newegg and it would be fine, it would be shipping with thermal pads as long its a model made after september like bisjac said

An evga OC or FTW would be good

so i plan to go with http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487259&cm_re=evga_gtx_1070-_-14-487-259-_-Product or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500401&cm_re=zotac_gtx_1070-_-14-500-401-_-Product the zotac one requires two 8-pins and comes with 2-6pins to 8pin but i dont have four 6 pins on my power supply and ajjsgfjsjdfsdf i dont even know

what power supply do you have then? if there aren't sufficient cables then it either isn't powerful enough or it's time for an upgrade on that too, or both

I have an EVGA 600w i got from best buy for $30 so I dunno I trust the EVGA brand and i've heard they make great psus so idk
EDIT: Im dumb, i have two 6+2 pin connectors, I just thought it was only two 6 pins. silly me

imo get amd.

i don't trust novideo's tactics.

edit: tbh, YOU should pick the card YOU like.

but then again common sense goes out the window...

i like both of them, but im looking for a card that has longevity and will be quiet, and i dont know how i feel about getting an Nvidia card for longevity since they gimp their older cards through driver "updates." AMD on the other hand doesn't do this whatsoever. Plus the AMD card has excessive coil whine from what i've seen in videos which I won't mind much since my current card makes some coil whine.

then go with the 1070.

if you find nvidia has better cards, then go with nvidia. simple. as. that.

apologies, i misread that.

if you're going with this gpu long term (>3, maybe 4 years) go AMD, they have been fantastic at long term driver support and through history their gpus are weaker then nvidias at launch but due to how well they support their gpus they end up way stronger then when you first got them. the 6950 is still receiving game optimizations and full driver support to this day.

nvidia does a pretty poor job at supporting their gpus over the long term but for the first 2-3 years of a gpus lifespan they will be fantastic and if you plan on replacing the GPU in around that time span then you would go nvidia. usually past the 2-3 years of your nvidia gpu lifespan they usually cut off most game optimizations and you'll mostly receive bugfixes for your driver updates.

basically, AMD long term, nvidia short term.

Thanks, I think I'm gonna go with the R9 Fury mentioned in the OP then. I probably will get it around Christmas or whenever my current card dies if im too cheap.
