Author Topic: Should I get a R9 Fury over a GTX 1070?  (Read 2284 times)

title says it all, looking at getting either http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202186 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500401&cm_re=zotac_gtx_1070-_-14-500-401-_-Product
either way I would need a psu upgrade since I dont think a 600w psu is enough to support either of these cards

for the record. i am running a 6700k, 16gigarams, and a 1080ftw. all overclocked to death.
on 500w (gold)

unless your cpu is amd it may not matter.

600w is fine
people grossly overestimate how much wattage they need

I have a 1070 and it's a loving blast m8

but if you like games that have terrible AMD graphic optimization then have fun with that.

I have a 4690k at 4.5ghz 16gb ram and a RX 470 currently.

yeah I realize that I did lol

I have an AMD card and there are no games that have "terrible graphic optimization" lol. I don't like nvidias tactics, and I don't want to support them in any way, but they dominate the high end and I'm pretty much forced to buy one of their cards.

I probably should have mentioned this in the OP, but I'm looking for a card that will be quiet but also be great for 144hz 1080p and last a good long while without getting performance degradation (ex Nvidia gimping their older cards when a newer generation comes out, similar to Apple)

I recognize Nvidia's dumb stuff tactics such as that in particular, but honestly the 1070 is a fantastic card, mine's quiet as all hell and handles any game thrown in it's way amazingly.

also my 1070 is the Founders Edition so it may be different with each card, specifically one's with more fans.

The 1070 is a great card, honestly.

what exactly are these 'tactics' that you two speak of

well, Nvidia has time and time again dumped bags of money on devs for the ultimate optimization on their cards, while telling them to purposely mess up optimization for AMD's cards.

for instance, look at WD2 on PC, they said like back in March they were going to do their best to support AMD cards or something like that. But then the trailer for PC off of Nvidia's youtube comes out showing off all the neat things Nvidia Gameworks can do in WD2, with like no mention of stuff for AMD.

but hey what Gameworks is doing to Nvidia card looks loving dope tho, still a stuff practice at the same time.

that just seems like more of a reason not to buy an amd card

It's more of a reason to buy an AMD card for me. I don't want to support those tactics in any way.

Price is a factor too guys. And both of these cards are quiet from the reviews i've seen, just the Fury has coil whine which i'm fine with.

i mean you're the consumer and if you're fine with some games running apparently stufftier just because of your choice of hardware then ok but nvidia is gonna continue to do this and one person who chooses amd over nvidia isn't going to put a dent in their profits

hello fellow founder's edition 1070 owner
i am one too

get the 1070
i don't like nvidia's practices but it's the best bang4buck gpu out there on the market

i dont think amd can even make gpus anymore.

zen partners better start doing itx though. otherwise i will have no use for them either.
