Actually, one more thing before I go to bed. A correction:
I don't think people "rejected happiness." Rather, I believe that "happiness" is just a term that refers to the "average" of all of a person's desires and how well they've been satisfied.
If your best friend just died but you're not hungry, you'd probably be rather unhappy.
If you're starving but your friends and family are all safe, you'd probably still be rather unhappy.
If you've just eaten a nice meal, your friends are all safe and sound, every other desire is satisfied, but you have an urge for a "higher purpose" that you can't satisfy then you'll still be genuinely unhappy.
I made that post before you replied, but:
we are different from animals because we have the mental capacity to create, think, and reason. that's it. we're not some higher ascended being cast to overcome the beasts, we're animals that evolved. there is no set purpose in life except what you set for yourself. it's generally agreed that the final purpose in life is to live comfortably and/or doing something you enjoy doing. as far as i can figure, anyone who "rejects happiness" is just a self-righteous turd. but hey, if you find happiness in ""rejecting happiness,"" then good for you.
I don't mean to be too rude but that kind of post just makes you seem self-centered and shallow. Like, I realize people on this forum won't agree with my extreme positions, but that's honestly how it comes off to me.
