Author Topic: how to port forward with an at&t router  (Read 3597 times)

its not garry's fault that people dont know how to port forward
Actually since I used to host on a selection of games such as TF2, Blockland and rise of nations I can confirm I had no problems getting those up without the need to port forward where as garry's mod was a complete mess to set up

I've hosted all of those games
Most of the time it's the user, not the program. Blockland uses uDnP or whatever its called and i'm pretty sure TF2 being a valve game uses it too.

there was a time when BL didn't use uPnP (and it wasn't too bad, port forwarding was pretty easy), but I'm glad it does now. but yea i agree garry's mod was always a bitch to set up compared to other games

wait if I want people to join the gmod server, will they have to put in "connect [local ip]"
192.168.x.x > Settings > Firewall > Applications, Pinholes, and DMZ > Choose ____ (Your Computers Name here, Click on it) > Allow all traffic (DMZPlus Mode > Save > Reboot router

This is how I did it.

open and end ports are closed apparently
why does gmod have to be so forgetY

your using windows right

did you open the ports on your firewall too
you gotta do that too

I don't even have a firewall

test to see if your port is open here: http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/

when forwarding a port, you're going to need to restart the service that's hosting the server (in this case, gmod/gmod dedi server)
these sites never work for me. i have ports that are clearly, provably opened and they all come up as closed

uhhhhhh doesn't gmod have built in p2p now

why does gmod have to be so forgetY
gmod has nothing to do with it
Networking all works the same way, it's all handled by your router, the game is irrelevant.

Did you forward TCP, or just UDP?
Games are going to require UDP, but these sites are only going to test TCP, because the differences between the protocols requires that you have an application running and listening for requests
