well couldn't you just copy the zip files and use ctrl h to add "smooth" at the end of the bricks' names, then replace their textures with blank images?

You can't just "replace their textures." They all reference the textures in the Base folder. Sure, you can delete those, and then all bricks will be blank, but you'd actually have to change the model to remove the textures from just some bricks.

If you want the default bricks, but textureless, Siba made an archive of Blockland's default BLBs turned into the SPECIAL format with their texture, UV, and normals data, you could use those, and set their TEX data to 'SIDE' and all the values for the UV coords to '0.5 0.5'
