Author Topic: New Special Paint Effects  (Read 1087 times)

A few ideas:

Darken
What
Similar to glow, Darken does just the opposite, making it darker.
Why
If we had glow and darken, then each color would really be 3 colors, with a normal, lighter, and darker variant. This allows gray and brown scales to have fewer colors and still have the same effect.

Water
What
Works like undulate, but applies the water effect.
Why
So you can use it without using events.

Wireframe
What
Makes the brick appear as wireframe without having building tools out.
Why
Would make for some interesting effects and whatever is necessary to make bricks appear wireframed already exists.
note:Might be better as a checkbox in the wrench menu

Ghost
What
Makes the brick appear as a coloured ghost brick
Why
Mainly for effect, would be interesting, and as above the necessary coding exists.

No Texture
What
Makes the brick be untextured-- no lines, no bumps, etc. Prints still show.
Why
Would be useful in many places and the lines can be annoying in some areas.
note:Might be better as a checkbox in the wrench menu. Should also still be able to have a secondary effect like undulate.

Water is already out, much like wireframe, it has to be added as code.

OnActivate/Self/SetShapeFX/Water

Any brick can appear to be water, but not take on the water code.

Uhm, I get that. The effect should be a paint because eventing it is frustrating.

Mmm, if you could somehow edit the FX paints, you might be able to do that.

I get that as well. However you cant edit the FX paints.

Do you see where this is going now?

Yeah, it's very complicated.
Maybe we could create a script that allows another row of paints, past the FX ones, including the ones above. It sounds tough, but I'm sure we could find a way to it.

I had an idea for that too.

*wonders why this is not in blockland already*

when you mean water FX, you mean turn a brick into water? that would be awesome. That way someone could have a custom-sized pool. Now if only someone knew the coding needed to edit and make paints change the Datablock.

No, just to add the custom water wavy effect.

I thought additional paint effects were impossible? or do you mean wrenching blocks?

Perhaps 'Lighten' as well - glow makes the brick appear in solid/maximum colour on every side and not be affected by lights after that. It would make all shades of brown probably into white or bright orange.
