Announcement Function ([Name] obtained [Item])

I was thinking, after remembering a game I had so long ago.. Jedi Knight, for the Gamecube. If you picked up an item, or lost an item.. You'd have a little announcement thing on the top left. Since the chat is on the top left, I thought it could be on the bottom left, or the top right.. For example,
"JDofPivot obtained Lego Blaster" But, in bright blue.
This would be moderately simple, right?

The only places you can easily display messages without modifying the client code is the top left (normal chat), centre (justified centre, left or right) or at the bottom (justified centre, left or right). It's hard to place things at the top right since you'd have to send a <just:right> chat message, but that'd take up a line of standard chat and scroll at the same time as it, and look strange. They could display in a bottom print message, though, like the current "MID AIR KILL" announcement or New Rewards mod does it.
