Author Topic: Making a Static IP Address, how?  (Read 282 times)

I know my router. I know my IP address. I know that I need to make a private static IP address. I don't know how. For a long time now, I was told that I need to get DNS servers from my local internet provider, but they have made that very hard. Is this true that I need DNS servers? Am I doing something totally wrong?

I use a mac. That makes EVERYTHING a ton more complicated. Dx

it might say your DNS in your router somewhere

Not literally inside it though.

How might I find this in my router? And I'm not sure if this is really what I'm talking about, because in the "Create Network" section of my network tab in System Pref., it says I need to enter 3 DNS servers. >_>

You should only need to have a internal network static IP in order to host, your outside IP should not matter unless people are directly connecting to you. Depending on your router, it may or may not have the ability to give the devices connected to it static IP's.
