Author Topic: Restricted Saving  (Read 803 times)

Note: If this idea has already been made, please give me a link to it if possible.

Could someone perhaps develope a server-side script that restricts saving of bricks on an internet server to only the host? This would prevent people from entering a server and saving a build that maybe the owner doesn't want to share to any other server.

I suppose this could prevent anyone from 'stealing' builds and using them as their own (not that I've seen this yet).

Feedback will be appreciated. :cookieMonster:

Offtopic: You know, the fact that you registered today might be the reason why you never saw anyone steal builds.  What's you bl_id?
Ontopic: Good idea, but would has downsides, e.g. host not on his dedicated and it crashed, and nobody was able to be saving for them to load the bricks back up.

True but you should be able to disable it. I'm pretty sure no one who plans on making a dedicated and leaving will have a restricted build. anyone who would use it would have a valid point in doing so.

Good idea.

Seriously, does that even matter? Yes I registered today, but that doesn't mean I'm new to Blockland. I've only recently seen a threat of someone attempting to steal a build and since that someone seemed to just want attention, I tohught they would never come to actually loading the stolen build.

Thanks for the feedback anyways.

Not only is this impossible to do, but is also not even a good idea.

We've been through this before. Here are some quotes from Badspot. You can read the topic here: http://forum.blockland.us/index.php?topic=13577.0

If you don't want people "stealing" your builds, put a password on your server or play in single player mode.

You'll have to deal with people saving your builds then.  It's a core feature of the game...  People like to save builds so they can look at them locally and play with them later, or maybe add on to them on their own server.

Just because a few 12 year old dorks like to claim credit for other people's work doesn't mean you should cripple the whole game.

Build something cool, post screenshots in the gallery, and all of the people who matter will know that you built it.  The idiots won't know, but they're idiots - nothing that you or I can do will change that.  You have to concentrate on making the experience better for the good players, not making it worse for the bad ones.

It's safe to say that this will never be added to the game.
