Author Topic: Need help making sure I'm going to buy the right PSU.  (Read 1005 times)

I'm looking to upgrade my power supply just for getting a little ahead and making sure everything is going fine with my computer.

I'm thinking of buying this 550W power supply, but I'm not sure if I should.
My motherboard is a Gigabyte S-Series GA-EP43-DS3L, and my power supply powers an Intel Core 2 Duo E7300 @ 2.66 GHz, a 9800GT with a 6 pin PCI connector, 2 sticks of 1GB RAM both running at 677 MHz, and a 2GB stick at 800 MHz. It also powers a hard drive and DVD-R drive.
Here is a picture of the current power supply specs.

My question is, am I buying the right power supply, or do I even need an upgrade?

Bit low powered for a 9800 isn't it?

I have a 1200watt PSU in one of my computers :V

Yeah sorta :/
I also bought a 400w PSU when RW gave me a list of a good system (which I bought and now using), but that was when I found out I already had a 400w PSU and didn't need it. Un/fortunately, my brother's alienware stuff laptop broke down totally and his warranty ran out, so he brought his desktop from the dead (even if he still had a 5500 FX still in it lol), and he took my old system stuff and the new power supply and paid me back $60, being that he just bought the PSU from me and I gave him the old parts.

Bump for needed help. I want to buy this by the end of today if possible.

The power supply you selected should work well for all but the most powerful of cards...that is assuming you don't add in any more HDDs or lights or any other components.

If you want to account for room for future upgrades I'd go for the next model up in the Corsair series. Within reason that thing could handle a GTX 295.

pfft 750watt, 1200watt all the way.

I've got a 1000w and I'm using it to power two GTX280s. :3

That one then.

I have an extra DVD drive in the case, but never plugged in because power difficulties, and I'm getting another HDD.
In the far future (Idk, few years from now?), I plan on getting maybe a newer CPU and video card, and maybe, JUST maybe a new mobo or RAM.
