please try this game before you comment unless the comment is to tell that you'll try it later :P

Harvest; Massive encounter (or Harvest to veterans) is a strategy game where you build towers, harvest ore from surrounding rocks, and try to defend your colony from the hostile aliens. This game, despite feeling easy at first, is in actuality, very difficult to defeat past the fifth "wave" of aliens. It isn't too graphics-intensive, so can run on a smaller computer for school or travel without a disc or overheating your lap.
My new lappy has a smaller AMD processor which runs cool anyway, so I don't need to worry about that anyway :\
It takes place in the distant future, on three planets (one if you don't buy the game), and you have five different modes or so to play with. Despite the demo lacking a bit, it's still fun for newbies. I suggest seeing if you like it before buying it, as it can be an acquired taste for some.
