Author Topic: Successful RPG's  (Read 11337 times)

I am currently in the process of starting a new RPG and I was wondering what makes a Blockland RPG successful?

Heres some things I've thought of:
  • Many quests
  • Plenty of interactive features
  • Many areas to explore
  • Make sure the builds are decent
  • Overall give the players something to do
Any other thoughts?

New point of discussion: My plot

I want this RPG to be a big adventure RPG where you may explore many diverse areas, but I think it should also have some plot to it. I was thinking something where Past and Future collide in a medieval setting, but I am not good at building futuristic stuff, and I don't wanna rely on others everytime I want a futuristic thing built... What do you all think?

Something I generally want to see more of is NPCs and (well executed) PvP. Since you can script, you can create a kill for exp type system which I very much hope to see in your RPG. A HUGE problem with most blockland RPGS is that they simply consist of "click y until you get resource x so you can buy z and then nothing."

Less mining/woodcutting/fishing type things that are way too monotonous, PLEASE.

I agree completely. I am still going to have those monotonous skills, but am going to try to give them more purpose. Such as the wood you get allows you to build bridges to get to new areas, etc... I plan on having a combat experience type thing, that allows you to get better weapons and such.

Try using botEvents for NPCs and Enemies.

mmm, sounds awesome already.

Yes the LEgend of the block is more of a Quest rp, We dont even have an ore/log system et O:

Something to keep players occupied.
Like a banking system, shops and other event run things.

Make sure there are plenty of fool-proof instructions, one of the main problems I had was people asking "How do I do x" all the time because I didn't have any instructions on how to do so, because I forgot that stupid people do, in fact, exist.

sounds epic... which is why i'll probably never get to play it :,(
I'm on an HP netbook that can't run too much bricks.

What I want to see is more player on player interaction instead a point and click adventure where you really just play by yourself.

'Fraid I'm more of an RP kinda guy.

Hmm, I like that idea. Like take on quests together? Specify more what players can do together, please.

I'm thinking of scripting a trading system, how does that sound?

You really need to integrate as much challenge/dm/puzzle/quest elements as you possibly can.

Keep dumbasses out.

Ontopic: If you want to make a succesful RPG, make bots that aren't zombies, because I want to battle a swordsmen, not a zombie. Also, make up some skills. Make your RPG unique.

Make it so players can change the play area.
Like what you said, building bridges and whatnot.
And mining, say, you can find new ore veins that get opened up to everyone, or in a forest you find a tunnel that now everyone can use ect.
