The other day I received a Cisco 2600 xm series server from a friend.  As of now I am hosting a Blockland server on my PC.  If  I shut off my PC then the server will shut down.  I was wondering if there is any way to host my server dedicated on the Cisco server.  And tell me step by step on how to even set the server up.  I know nothing about networking.  The server is just sitting in a closet its not even hooked up.  I'd need to know how to hook it up also.  Thanks!  If this isn't a server please tell me what it is and what it is used for!

I need a dedicated minigame mod that keeps your spawn bricks when you leave.  I have one but when I leave my spawn bricks no longer work.  Thanks!

Dedi mini-games are kinda hacky.

That "Cisco 2600 xm" of which you speak of is NOT a server, it is/was a high end router.

Yea you should get FiOS.

Yea you should get FiOS.
What the hell does this have to do with anything?

um. this dont look like a server. i dont get it.

Yea you should get FiOS.
FiOs is an internet service provided by Verizon.
Not a router.
Can you...you know, not try to look smart?

My friend who gave it to me works for Cisco and he was calling it a server.  It has a lot of ports in the back, ports in which I think do not belong on a router.  Ill try to provide pictures.

a server is like... a computer you can install on and will run games/sites/hostings for you.
this looks like a larger business grade hub

I added pictures^^^ sorry for the resolution.

This is correct. The thing your friend gave you is a router, not a server.

Starcraftman is correct - this is a router. A router will not be able to host Blockland for you and it really is no use to you what-so-ever.

Thanks guys now can someone please post a link to a place I can buy a server that will work for Blockland.  I might buy it...  I don't need a high end one just one that will host a Blockland server without lag.  And I am confused... Is a server a computer that you only use for hosting things however you can still use it for other things like the one I am using now or is a server a device made to ONLY host servers that you leave on at all times and it does not run an operating system?  If #1 then don't post a link.

A "server" is just a computer, the term is used pretty loosely. A REAL "server" would be a computer that has a very fast CPU, lots of ram, and usually no dedicated graphics card. If you really want to host a server for blockland 24/7 I would recommend using and older computer with nothing but the bare essentials installed, like the OS, firewall, antivirus software, and maybe a way of remotely controlling it (UVNC)  so you done need to leave it hooked up to a monitor, keyboard, or mouse. I would guess that a computer with a 2 Ghz processor and 512-1024 Mb ram would be good enough to run a dedicated blockland server.
